AIR INTAKE SYSTEM

 Much
of a diesel engine's successful performance depends on a clean and
efficient air-intake system. Too often, these systems receive insufficient priority  in maintenance and service because the problems they create do not immediately affect engine performance. Nevertheless, any inefficiency causes unnecessary wear and strain on engine components. |

THE
PURPOSE OF THE AIR-INTAKE SYSTEM IS TO:

* Supply clean, filtered air to each cylinder as required for complete and efficient combustion * Supply air for scavenging * Reduce {silence} the engine noise. |
|||||||||
Because
of the many different and often hostile environments in which a
diesel engine performs, supplying a sufficient amount of clean,
filtered air can be an expensive challenge.
